AGM 2018

[lead]This year’s AGM will be held on Saturday 24th March at Salmesbury War Memorial Hall, Cuerdale Lane, Walton-le-Dale, Samlesbury, Preston PR5 0UY from 5.30pm. [/lead]

This year we have again have two fantastic guest speakers and it’s an all badgers show this time:

Gin Jacobucci – talking about her study on badger poo (!) and seed dispersal.

Jane Cullen of Wirral and Cheshire Badger Group –  as Chair of our neighbouring group, Jane is no stranger to us. We have asked her to come and speak to us about how the cull in Cheshire has affected their group and how they have worked to raise awareness and reduce it’s impact on badgers in light of the recently announced consultation on culling in Low Risk Areas. Jane has led Wirral and Cheshire Group’s vaccination project and won the Warrington Inspiration Award (Great & Green category).

Member Display

We’d like to invite members with photo’s or videos of badgers to share their work on a display board for others to see (please email agm@lancashirebadgergroup.org.uk).

Supper

This year we will be providing a subsidised, hot supper.  It is vital that we know how many people want to have supper and therefore you must book supper in advance  if you want to eat!


If you do not want supper you do not need to book, but there is a donation option if you would like to help with the cost of the event. Please include your membership number in the notes section when you book your supper.

All persons wishing to nominate anyone for committee, lay down a question or propose a motion, please do so in writing to the Secretary, PO Box 58, Lancaster, LA1 5AF to arrive no later than March 17th 2018 (voting is only by show of hands at the meeting, no arrangements have been made for proxy voting).

Learn About Badgers!
A badger sett is a system of tunnels and nesting chambers lined with bedding such as grass, moss and leaves.
Cubs are normally born in February, and the average number in a litter is three, although the range can be from one to five.
Badgers are considered omnivorous, although their diet varies so much in different countries they are also sometimes termed ‘local specialists’.
Badgers live mainly in woods and copses in extensive underground burrow systems called setts.
Badgers are shy, nocturnal animals that live in underground chambers connected by a network of tunnels known as a sett.
Did You Know?
It has been estimated that up to 50,000 badgers may be killed on our roads each year. If safe to do so, it is worth checking what appears to be a dead badger.
Snares can do serious damage to skin tissue which is not immediately obvious.
Badger cubs begin to explore above ground in May, sometimes without mum’s permission!
Try not to cause the animal alarm, but observe from a distance.

Not everyone wants badgers in their garden, we know that they can dig up lawns, eat bulbs and generally make a mess.
